How to avoid scams while waiting for a refund.

Dear users of the Tarifex platform and members of our community!

Recently, we have noticed an increase in fraudulent activity targeting clients who accidentally forgot to specify a MEMO or destination tag during their transfer.

Since the automated system cannot recognize a payment without this data, it is rejected, and the funds are sent for a manual refund. According to our regulations, this process takes up to 72 hours. Scammers actively exploit this waiting period while you are worrying about your funds.

Their scheme looks very plausible. Scammers monitor open transactions on the blockchain and spot your pending transfer. At this moment, they send a microscopic amount—so-called "dust"—to your wallet, and in the comment field of this tiny transfer, they leave the contact details of a fake support team, most often a Telegram account.

The client sees this incoming micro-payment, assumes it is the refund from our exchange, and contacts the provided address asking why the amount is so small or where the rest of the funds are. The fake support politely apologizes for an imaginary technical failure and offers to "help" process the refund manually.

It is exactly at this stage that various tricks are used to steal your main funds. Scammers may:

  • Ask you to provide your seed phrase or private key, convincing you that it is necessary to synchronize the wallet.

  • Send a link to a fake technical support website and ask you to connect your wallet (e.g., via WalletConnect) to secretly trick you into signing a smart contract that grants them access to all your tokens.

  • Ask you to pay a small network fee to "unlock" the refund.

  • Suggest installing remote access software like AnyDesk or turning on screen sharing in Zoom to spy on your data.

To keep your funds safe, we would like to remind you of the basic rules of using Tarifex:

  1. Stay calm and wait: If you made a mistake with the MEMO, the refund to the sender's wallet will be processed within 72 hours. It is impossible to speed up this process through third-party chats.

  2. We do not communicate via the blockchain: We never use blockchain comments or micro-payments to contact you, and we never send you direct messages first.

  3. Keep your data private: The real support team will under no circumstances ask for your seed phrase, force you to connect your wallet to third-party services for a refund, or demand additional fee payments.

Please be vigilant. Completely ignore strange micro-transfers with contact details in the comments.
